Lord of the Rings: The musical?
What had been, did not Peter Jackson Tolkien's books filmed in 2001, but someone else in 1968? This question was the director even after, because rumors were in the 1960s a master of the-rings film planned with the Beatles in the main roles. In a conversation with BBC Jackson tells about what he found out.
Although Tolkien published the master of the-rings trilogy in the mid-50s, the books did not get a momentary momentum for a decade. That brought some people to film the works at that time.
During his work on the Disney + -Roku The Beatles: Get Back, Jackson could make his curiosity air. In talks with Paul McCartney and Ringo rigid, he learned that a film was actually in the room with the Beatles.
McCartney's memories after the band members were sent to the Tolkien books in 1968 for reading, while they were on a spiritual retreat in India. Producer Denis O'Dell, who worked with the band later on the satire film The Magic Christian, hoped to convince the four from the idea of a Beatles fantasy film.
The superstars were excited about this idea. O'dell's consideration was to occupy the main roles with the band members.
Paul McCartney should be occupied as Frodo Again, Ringo Starr had to play Sam now Game, John Lennon should occur as Gollum and George Harrison should be the wizard Gandalf. And they even wanted to win Stanley Kubrick, who had shot 2001: Odyssey in space, as a director.

However, this preliminary consideration was made by no one other than Tolkien himself a stroke through the bill. The legendary creator of Middle earth refused to sell the movie rights to his books. He did not want a pop band to give his epic to life. But Jackson confirmed that it was actually in the field of possibilities for a brief moment.
For a moment, the Beatles have seriously thought about doing that in early 1968.
If you still like to see new things from the Beatles, you can turn on the Disney + -Roku The Beatles: Get Back. Since 25 . November is the three-part series available at streaming service and shows brilliant restored and never-released image material the volume from 1969.
